Our youth group held a yearly cake auction to raise money to offset the cost of activities, materials and to provide scholarships for those who needed assistance.
Each year we would ask the men of the church/community to bake and decorate cakes with absolutely no help from any woman.
We would advertise the event about 6 weeks in advance and start to build excitement as to whose cake would bring in the most money.
This simple “competition” would result in some very interesting creations like a toilet with blue jello, a pirate ship with little men and a volcano.
On the night of the event we served snacks and had one of the kids be the auctioneer.
The fun of having the men make the cakes along with the excitement of the bids allowed us to make over $2500 dollars in one night with very little investment and it was just plain fun for everyone.
