Having been involved in my four sons’ schools from kindergarten on, I’d handled every type of fundraiser there is. Greeting cards and wrapping paper, candy, cookie dough, decorative items, plants, discount books, even a Santas Secret Shop.
The most fun I ever had was the fundraiser we did when my third son was in the 6th grade. We wanted to do something these “older” 6th graders would get excited about. Knowing their excitement had a great deal to do with our success, we looked at the scratchcards. The kids loved the idea. It was like lottery tickets, but legal!
We combined the scratchoffs with the sale of M&M’s. The children were rewarded with the scratchoffs at different levels of sales. We took in orders and handed out scratchoffs twice a week during the fundraiser. This kept the kids excited and motivated to keep selling.
It was one of the most successful and enjoyable fundraisers I’ve ever been involved with. The kids loved it, the parents were thrilled when their children won cash money for their efforts, and the PTA raised the needed funds for several projects.
